Toxic Masculinity – ist Männlichkeit giftig?

16. June 2020 12:30 14:00

Under the motto “Auf ein Bütterken mit Marie Jahoda” or “Auf ein Herrengedeck mit Marie Jahoda”, the Marie Jahoda Center offers lectures and web seminars on gender studies in theory and practice. Here, you can talk to experts and exchange views on current social developments and research questions. The series includes events at lunchtime (Auf ein Bütterken with Marie Jahoda) and in the evening (Auf ein Herrengedeck with Marie Jahoda).

The new series starts on 16 June 2020, 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., with a lecture on: Toxic Masculinity – Ist Männlichkeit giftig?

The term “Toxic Masculinity” (or Toxic Masculinity) is gaining momentum in the social media and the arts pages. For some, it represents a way of framing and reflecting on destructive male thinking and behaviour in a new way; others see it as a blanket label or even as an attack.

But where does the term come from and what is really meant when talking about Toxic Masculinity? How useful is the term for political work or research? These and other questions will be answered in the lecture and discussed together.

Expert: Laura Chlebos is a sociologist at the Marie Jahoda Center for International Gender Studies and coordinates “Unser Campus” – a campaign against sexualised discrimination and violence at the RUB.

You can register until 14 June 2020 with your first and last name and (if possible) your institution by Anne Tilse: Anne.Tilse@rub.de.

In advance to the event you will receive login details for the presentation by e-mail.

Further notes: The Marie Jahoda Center for International Gender Studies uses the RUB campus licence of Zoom for its online events. No data of participants will be stored.
