There are hardly any empirical studies on intersexuality to date. Between 2015 and 2017, the project “Intersexuality in NRW — A Qualitative Study of Health Care for Inter-gender children in North Rhine-Westphalia” investigated the way in which intersex children are cared for and parents are counselled if intersex is suspected. Parents and doctors were asked about their experiences with diagnosis, then recommendations for action and a brochure for parents were prepared.
