Workshop Princess A Sibanda: Bodies Don’t Lie: Towards Embodied Methodologies
23. Januar 2024 17:00 – 18:00
Our Marie Jahoda-Fellow Dr Princess A Sibanda invites you to a workshop on the topic Bodies Don’t Lie: Towards Embodied Methodologies.
Abstract: „How we have been taught and what constitutes legitimate knowledge leans towards a knowledge system that valorises written text as the ultimate source of truth. Other forms of knowledge production are not always considered scientific or rigorous enough. In this workshop we ponder on the critical role of the body as a site of knowledge production and as knowledge in itself. Bodies, particularly marginalised bodies write their stories everyday as they walk and navigate spaces but that form of text is not considered legitimate or scientific enough. The workshop centres the body and play. When bodies play and interact what new knowledges emerge? What begins, what ends and what continues? In this workshop I reflect on the critical role of the body in research, particularly in sexuality and gender studies. The playing will be theoretically grounded on Popular participatory theatre, a form that is situated within the broader realm of Applied theatre. In many ways the workshop invites you along the journey of exploring PPT as an indigenous methodology that can be used effectively in various disciplines especially in the arts and humanities. PPT is most notable for its dialogic and therapeutic impulses and has been used in various contexts to deal with complex, sensitive and taboo subjects. Come and let us see what the body can offer as both text and method.“
